Elle rallies all of her resources and gets into Harvard, determined to win him back. While there, she figures out that there is more to herself than just good looks.

Reviews split pretty cleanly between Reese Witherspoon and everything around her: critics who liked the film liked it almost entirely because of her performance, while detractors felt the screenplay was too formulaic and lightweight for even that performance to fully rescue. The audience responded more warmly than critics did overall.
