Dune: Part One

Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet's exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence - a commodity capable of unlocking humanity's greatest potential - only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Villeneuve's adaptation earns broad but not universal admiration: the worldbuilding, production design, and central performances — particularly Chalamet and Ferguson — drew consistent praise, while the pacing, the abrupt ending, and the film's handling of its source material's cultural complexity were the most common fault lines. It functions more as an immersive prologue than a complete story, which critics found either appropriately epic or frustratingly incomplete.
