Thor: The Dark World landed in genuinely mixed territory, with critics split between those who found Hemsworth and Hiddleston's chemistry enough to carry the film's spectacular excess and those who saw a paint-by-numbers Marvel product devoid of any directorial personality. The action and humor land for some; the villain, the romance, and long stretches on Asgard left others cold — and director Alan Taylor himself has since disowned the final cut, blaming studio interference for the film's shortcomings.
