Dangal

Dangal is an extraordinary true story based on the life of Mahavir Singh and his two daughters, Geeta and Babita Phogat. The film traces the inspirational journey of a father who trains his daughters to become world class wrestlers.

Dangal earned broad admiration for its wrestling sequences, Aamir Khan's physically and emotionally committed performance, and a screenplay that resists the melodramatic excess typical of Bollywood sports films. The sharpest fault line in criticism, however, runs through its feminist politics: while many praised the film for championing girls in a patriarchal society, a vocal minority argued that the father's authority is never truly questioned, leaving male control intact even as women win medals.
