Critics broadly admired Aaron Paul's performance and Vince Gilligan's assured Western-inflected direction, but the film's sharpest fault line was necessity: many felt it gave Jesse Pinkman the emotional closure the finale denied him, while others argued that a beautifully made, well-acted two-hour epilogue was simply superfluous. It is also emphatically not for newcomers — reviewers agreed that anyone unfamiliar with the full run of Breaking Bad will be lost.
