Beautiful Boy

After he and his first wife separate, journalist David Sheff struggles to help their teenage son, who goes from experimenting with drugs to becoming devastatingly addicted to methamphetamine.

Beautiful Boy lands in a frustrating middle ground where critics largely agreed the two lead performances are genuinely powerful, but found the film itself unworthy of them — the nonlinear structure and sluggish pacing repeatedly undercut the emotional weight Chalamet and Carell work hard to build. It's a film that critics felt was better than its execution and worse than its cast.
