The Addams Family

When a man claiming to be long-lost Uncle Fester reappears after 25 years lost, the family plans a celebration to wake the dead. But the kids barely have time to warm up the electric chair before Morticia begins to suspect Fester is fraud when he can't recall any of the details of Fester's life.

The 1991 Addams Family adaptation landed in mixed-review territory on release, with critics largely agreeing the cast was inspired but the script couldn't sustain more than a string of gags. The central tension in reviews was whether the performances — particularly Huston's Morticia, which earned a Golden Globe nomination — were enough to carry a film that many found narratively hollow.
