After discovering a passenger ship missing since 1962 floating adrift on the Bering Sea, salvagers claim the vessel as their own. Once they begin towing the ghost ship towards harbor, a series of bizarre occurrences happen and the group becomes trapped inside the ship, which they soon learn is inhabited by a demonic creature.
What critics thought
Critics largely dismissed Ghost Ship as a gore-heavy, poorly written haunted-vessel yarn that mistakes shock for suspense and offers little in the way of character or coherent plotting. The one point of near-universal agreement — even among detractors — is that the film's opening massacre sequence is a genuine showstopper, and its reputation has grown almost entirely on the strength of that single scene.
