What critics thought
Critics were sharply divided on this brooding Marvel origin story, with some finding it a reasonably solid superhero film with strong casting choices, and many others dismissing it as rushed, derivative, and narratively incoherent — the result, director Johnson later admitted, of cramming too many storylines into a single film and then being forced to cut a half-hour for studio notes. Ben Affleck's performance drew particular debate, earning him both defenders who praised his physicality and a Razzie for Worst Actor.
