Hitman

A genetically engineered assassin with deadly aim, known only as "Agent 47" eliminates strategic targets for a top-secret organization. But when he's double-crossed, the hunter becomes the prey as 47 finds himself in a life-or-death game of international intrigue.

Critics largely dismissed Hitman as an incoherent, gratuitously violent adaptation that fails to cohere as either action filmmaking or credible storytelling — though audiences received it more warmly than critics did. The film's reputation takes an odd turn with Roger Ebert's positive outlier review and Slavoj Žižek's inclusion of it in a personal all-time greatest list, making it an unusual case where the critical drubbing coexists with some genuinely passionate defenders.
