I Am Legend

Robert Neville is a scientist who was unable to stop the spread of the terrible virus that was incurable and man-made. Immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and perhaps the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone.

A modestly favorable but divided reception, with Will Smith's one-man performance drawing consistent praise while the film's third act drew near-universal criticism — many critics felt the movie squandered a strong first half, and the alternate DVD ending became a flashpoint for the debate over whether the theatrical cut fundamentally betrayed its own story. The CGI-rendered infected also drew skepticism, and the film's shift toward explicit Christian allegory frustrated those familiar with Matheson's source novel.
