DivisiveCritics largely dismissed this reboot as a formulaic retread that strips away the campy spirit that made the original run work, leaving behind competent filmmaking in service of very little. A small minority argued it actually improves on the franchise by making Jason genuinely threatening, but most felt it delivered neither real scares nor the self-aware fun the material demands.
