The 2016 Ghostbusters reboot landed in genuinely mixed critical territory: most reviewers found its cast charming and its energy infectious, but even many fans of the film felt it leaned too hard on the original's shadow and couldn't quite get out from under it. The sharpest split was between critics who saw a likeable, freewheeling comedy let down by a weak script and overblown effects, and a minority who considered it an outright failure of writing, performance, and craft.
