Valerie is in love with a brooding outsider, Peter, but her parents have arranged for her to marry another man. Unwilling to lose each other, Valerie and Peter plan to run away together when Valerie's older sister is killed by a werewolf that prowls the dark forest surrounding their village. One of the most widely panned films of 2011, Red Riding Hood takes its fairy-tale premise with a deadly seriousness that critics found it couldn't sustain. Amanda Seyfried drew some sympathy, but the script's clichés and a muddled blend of tones left reviewers largely merciless.
