When the devil resurfaces with aims to take over the world in human form, Johnny Blaze reluctantly comes out of hiding to transform into the flame-spewing supernatural hero Ghost Rider -- and rescue a 10-year-old boy from an unsavory end.

Almost universally panned on release, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance left critics split only on the question of whether its chaos is entertainingly unhinged or just numbingly bad. Most landed firmly in the latter camp: the script is thin, the 3D largely pointless, and Cage's wild-eyed performance struck most as exhausted rather than inspired. The handful of defenders argued that directors Neveldine and Taylor bring genuine B-movie lunacy to the material — but even they tended to concede the superhero plot keeps getting in the way.
