Critics largely dismissed Kick-Ass 2 as a clumsy, overcrowded follow-up that fails to recapture what made the original work, with particular scorn aimed at its juvenile humor, handling of violence, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson's lead performance. The few warmer reviews acknowledged it as a reasonably faithful crowd-pleaser that at least doesn't oversell its own outrageousness — but even fans of the film tended to call it a step down.
