DivisiveNeill Blomkamp's third feature split critics sharply between those who saw a filmmaker with genuinely interesting ambitions and those who found those ambitions buried under clunky storytelling, one-note characters, and half-formed ideas about consciousness that the film raises but never answers. The title robot drew Jar Jar Binks comparisons from several quarters, while a minority of defenders argued the film's oddness and heart were distinctly Blomkamp's own.
