T2 Trainspotting

After 20 years abroad, Mark Renton returns to Scotland and reunites with his old friends Sick Boy, Spud and Begbie.

T2 Trainspotting lands mostly well with critics as a worthy if inevitably lesser companion to the original, with Boyle's kinetic direction and the cast's easy command of their characters doing much of the heavy lifting. The gap between critical enthusiasm and deeper admiration is real, though — reviewers largely agree it doesn't recapture what made the first film feel like a lightning strike, and at least one prominent voice dismissed the whole enterprise as little more than polished nostalgia for fans.
